to the beach, that is. I am taking the family to St. Teresa beach for the week. We are leaving on Saturday. I say that I am taking the family because Gary is not going. He has to stay home and work. No, it's not that he doesn't have enough vacation time. He is choosing work over his family. Sounds harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts.
When he approached his boss to get permission to go, his boss said, "You're going to the beach again??" He was, of course, referring to the fourth of July trip we took to Key West. We were gone for five days. Two of those days were vacation days. It was then that Gary lost the nerve to ask for the time off. I happen to know that his boss used to take his family on two week vacation trips to Myrtle Beach. I think he had a good time. I know his daughters did. But, times change.
Now, I also know that at least one of Gary's bosses reads this blog. I am not blaming you. Gary is a big boy. He can fight his own fights. He can make his own decisions. He didn't even ask for the time off. He would have done the same thing no matter where he worked. I am now realizing that he never intended to ask for the time off.
But he is going to miss a good time because the beach house is going to ROCK! My brother-in-law, Kevin and my nephew, Daniel are going to join us. John is taking the week off to play with us. I plan to let the boys (at least the older boys) have some freedom to explore and play on their own. I want John to show them what he used to do there as a little boy. I am going to make sure they are outside all day. No gameboys or DVDs unless it is dark or raining. I want them to make memories.
Of course, I will have my camera. I am asking everyone to bring khaki pants and a white shirt so that I can take formal beach pictures. Wouldn't it be great if I got something worth hanging over my fireplace?
So don't expect a post for about a week.
*edited - Okay, feeling a little guilty for hanging Gary out to dry like that. I know he is in a difficult position. I am not happy about it, but he feels it is the best thing to do. I know that he wants to go with us. He feels bad enough about it already. I don't need to add to that. I shouldn't blog in anger.
In the mean time, here are some pictures of Luke and Jack that I just submitted for a model contest. The mail-order catalog, The Company Store, is looking for kids ages 3-7 for their Spring 2007 Company Kids catalog. I submitted a head shot and a full body shot of each boy. What do you think?
They're so big and handsome! Please kiss them for me! I miss them
